Golfers Elbow Treatment

Golfers Elbow Massage
Our approach is to work on either the extensors (tennis) or flexors (golfer’s) muscles in the forearm that have normally been over-worked and are tight and fibrous which has led to the micro tears at the epicondyles.
Sports massage techniques are applied to both the tendon and the connecting muscles. Cross friction massage to the tendon is used if the injury has become chronic or does not respond to initial rest and ice treatment.  We apply sports massage to the muscles of the forearm, this can help reduce tension in the muscles improving their function which long term should help reduce the strain on the tendon at the elbow. We also check the pronaters and supinators of the forearm and often find the pronator teres is tight with tennis elbow. These muscles need to be stripped and separated (not the most pleasant of massages nor easy work for the therapist) to loosen up the tight fibres. Then the muscles need to be stretched mainly using a ‘soft tissue release’ method using false muscle origins which do not put further strain on the epicondyles. Ultrasound Massage is also available and may be used.

Trapped Nerve Treatment

Effective treatment for a Trapped Nerve Massage Treatment for Sciatica a common type of pain caused by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve.  This can be cause by excessive standing or sitting.  Symptoms include:
* Pain in the buttock or leg that is worse when sitting
* Burning or tingling down the leg
* Weakness, numbness, or difficulty moving the leg or foot
* A constant pain on one side of the buttock
* A shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up
* Sciatica usually affects only one side of the lower body.

Often, the pain extends from the lower back all the way through the back of the thigh and down through the leg. Depending on where the sciatic nerve is affected, the pain may also extend to the foot or toes.
The sciatic nerve goes down to the lower leg and foot and down the back of the thigh between muscles like the piriformis, which run down from the sacral area to the legs. A tightening of these muscles can cause the sciatic nerve to get compressed and cause pain.  The massage treatment will include applying constant pressure to the piriformis and other gluteal muscles to cause them to relax and reduce the spasms.  Our massage therapists will include deep tissue long massage strokes, which go deep into the muscle fibers.  This may require several sessions to enable the muscle to release its hold on the sciatic nerve and therefore afford longer relief.
